African Data Initiative  aims to empower students from an early age in interacting with data. Handling large data sets can now be easy and exposing children to the basics of data science is an essential step in joining the data revolution.

Increasingly large and meaningful datasets are being made open. Learning resources can therefore be built around them which enable educators to engage students without needing to be experts themselves. The climatic and procurement menus in R-Instat both include large open datasets which can facilitate this process.

Initially, these activities can be delivered through extra curricula events like maths camps and clubs, such as those led by AMI, but the long-term goal is to support change in curriculums.
