For Africa to take full advantage of the global data revolution, institutions need to be training future skilled work force to have high levels of data literacy. Therefore, ADI targets service teaching of statistics alongside the training of statistics specialists. Independent of the subject of study high levels of data literacy can improve job prospects and opportunities at many organizations.

To this end ADI provides resources to make it easy to teach conceptual understanding rather than theoretical knowledge. This is intended to increase people’s ability to work with data, tackling real problems and turning data into information.

With higher education institutions in mind R-Instat was developed with lots of built in data sets including a wide range of real African examples. Easy access to large data sets is crucial in enabling staff to include realistic problems in their teaching and provide students with the exposure they need to build skills and confidence working with data.
